Lighting your Home Effectively
Lighting your Home Effectively with LED Mood Lighting
Each room in your home plays a different part in your daily life so it’s worth taking this into account when choosing lighting solutions for your home. Throughout the course of the day your home changes character and function, so be sure to light it accordingly. Ensure that you assess the amount of natural light received by each room throughout the day; a north facing room, for example, will receive limited daylight even during the summer so light fittings with a higher luminescence are a must. Here’s a simple room by room guide to help you get started:
Living room – The main purpose of the living room is relaxation and leisure; therefore the lighting should be easy to control and adjust. Sometimes you’ll need bright light while other times you’ll want low, mood lighting, which is why many people install dimmers in their living room. Floor-standing up-lighters are a great addition in the living room; they create a nice ambience and increase luminescence in parts of the room when needed.
Kitchen – The kitchen is a task orientated room used primarily for food preparation and laundry, so it’s a good idea to be able to see what you’re doing. LED spotlights under you cupboards will help to light up your worktop and make it easier to see what you’re doing. If you have a kitchen-diner then it may be beneficial to install a dimmer switch so that you can turn the lighting down a little when it comes to eating your meal.
Bathroom – The bathroom is home to the bath, shower and toilet, and is where we clean and groom ourselves. However, for many people the bathroom is also a place of relaxation. LED spot lights will create a bright, clean light which is ideal for carrying out grooming and cleaning tasks; while a dimmer switch or candlelight will create the right atmosphere when you want to have a nice relaxing soak in the bath.
Bedroom – The bedroom’s main function is relaxation and sleep, but it is also used daily for personal grooming and dressing. It’s a good idea to light it adequately so that you can see what you’re doing. Try using lamps with low wattage bulbs on your bedside tables to create a soft light by which to read and relax prior to sleeping.
